Abstract

This article addresses my revision of Ludwig von Köchel’s Catalogue of W. A. Mozart, presenting the history of previous versions and discussing the main issues related to this revision, such as: dating and chronology, identification of works and sources, compositional practices, musical borrowings, as well as issues concerning historically informed performances. It also discusses aspects of Mozart’s reception through his compositional processes, affecting both the original construction of the catalogue and his assimilation into the imaginary of universal culture, in performances, films and literature in general.
